Mosman House by BKH

Framing striking vistas to the surrounding landscape and bay, Mosman House by BKH harnesses a crisp, contemporary language for luxury living. Tucked in a quiet cul-de-sac in Sydney’s lower north shore, Mosman House is an exploration of tonality and form. The home’s artful restraint creates an enduring and unified design sensibility that heroes the lush textures and vibrants tones of the natural surroundings. Deft and sinuous forms animate the open floor plates across four levels, while vertical and horizontal vistas are thoughtfully framed to give a sense of airiness and generosity.

BKH collaborated closely with Artedomus to source finishes and fittings reflecting the home’s contemporary narrative. Honed Rocca Bianca limestone flooring is used throughout the interior, combined with a matching acid-etched finish for the exterior polypads and louvres. The continuity of the material creates a seamlessness between indoor and and outdoor living spaces – in particular, the striking curved balconies addressing stunning north-eastern views to Little Sirius Cove.

The limestone flooring is complemented by Urban White porcelain panels from Artedomus, a nuanced, porcelain inspired by concrete that balances durability and beauty. Employed for the home’s principal exterior cladding, the product creates a crisp, architectural presence with subtle surface variations maintaining a sense of tactility and grain. Extensive glazing and louvred facades give porosity to the building envelope, allowing occupants to temper their relationship with the elements, delighting in the landscape and drawing in light and natural breezes.

The openness of the layout supports the clients’ love of entertaining, facilitating intuitive movement between settings. Communal spaces are oriented to capitalise on the site’s scenic outlook, allowing visitors to spill out to the sun-drenched outdoor terraces. The dining room ceiling is spliced to form a broad skylight, grounding the jaunty form of the dining table. Beyond, a linear lap pool is comparatively contained, brimming with soft foliage and a continuation of muted, tactile finishes.

A sense of retreat is mirrored in the home’s internal bathing spaces. Deep-stained timber joinery creates a portal to the lighter tones of the master ensuite, where high-quality Artedomus products add a sense of tranquility and reprise. A textured stone wall of Lithos Design Pietre Incise Tratto gently frames the elemental form of a freestanding bath, offering deep contrasts in finish and form. The guest powder room embraces deep turquoise hues of the bay, combining Smeraldo Quartzite, supplied by Artedomus, and matching polished plaster saturating wall and ceiling surfaces in an immersive and cooling jade hue.

Embracing an understated and sophisticated expression, BKH has carved out subtle shifts in mood and ambience to elevate the experience of home. Coherent and timeless forms are enriched by the confident use of tactile, neutral materials, balancing the potency of Mosman House’s bay views with elegant restraint. The resulting home is artistic, reposed and serene – a tailored experience with enduring appeal.
